A 96 square feet house
A man named Jay Shafer built a house that is smaller than my bedroom. I wonder how he is able to manage his daily life with his 96 square feet house. Jay Shafer actually grew up in a 4,000 square foot house. He has building or construction skill and knowledge yet he decided to build a small house for himself. He built his house, named Tumbleweed, in 1997, while he was teaching art at the University of Iowa, in Iowa City. It took him to build his tiny over 400 hours, which is in a two month time period. Shafer currently lives in Sebastopol, California, and has started to his own business, Tumbleweed Tiny House Co., and now builds houses for others. The average cost of these homes is $50,000. Shafer wishes to build an entire community out of these homes. In 2000 Shafer and some friends founded the Small House Society. They enthusiastically endorse affordable and economically conscientious small homes for others.
Apparently, when you live in a small house, you don’t need a lot of furniture and home appliances. So, there are some financial benefits. Shafer’s house is so small he can attach it with a hitch to a truck and travel with it anywhere. Shafer can build 50 square feet and up to 750 square feet. Jay Shafer builds his smaller designs himself and ships them by truck to consumers. Do you think you can live in a tiny house? I think tiny houses are only good for single or two people. But with children, to have more space make more sense.
The Hobbit house
I love the movie “The Lord of the Rings”. It is one of my favorite movies. I just watched again the other day, and looking at those Hobbit houses makes me wonder if there’s really such a house like those. To my surprise, yes, there’s a house like a Hobbit house. You can find it in Wales. Look at the photo below. This Low-Impact Woodland Home absolutely looks like the Hobbit house. Isn’t it? The house was carved out of a Welsh hillside, which was built by Simon Dale and his father-in-law. The house is made of spare wood, straw bales for insulation, plastic sheet and mud/turf roof and solar panels for electricity. Isn’t it amazing? However, the house doesn’t have round doors. For me, the round doors are the most striking parts of the house. The house was built with maximum regard for the environment, though.
Life can be stressful sometimes…
My life has been so stressful at work these days. We are not very busy. It is just that it is hard to get along with your co-workers sometimes, most especially with your supervisors or those who are above you. If something bad happened, they always blame on us. I don’t like it when they do that. They just want to wash their own hands. Well, I guess this is my life for now. I am just thankful to God that I have a job despite the economic status that we are facing right now. Jobs are hard to come by these days. Right? I am not planning on staying and working longer in my job. I would like to have a small business someday. I pray I could achieve it before this year ends. I am just tired of working for somebody else.
Anyhow, enough of this, I am just venting my feelings out. I was really frustrated at work. You know what time flies. Sooner or later, I might find other means to make more money, right? And speaking of time, wow, we are in the middle of this month. This month of January will be over before we know it. And then February comes… Valentines Day. Opps, Valentines Day… I would like to send my mom in-law a bouquet of flowers for Valentines. She is so nice to me. I better find some Flower coupons to get some discounts. I just love coupons. Well, time to go. I need to relax and forget what happened today but learned from it.
