Valentines is just 5 days to go. Are you ready for Valentines Day? In my case, I am not sure if I am going to be ready for that day. I am scheduled to work and so my husband. So, I guess, we are going to have a post valentines celebration. Anyway, how Valentines Day got started? Why Valentines Day is symbolized or associated with Cupids? Have you ever wondered why? When I was a kid, I used to believe that cupids are part of it. The story of Cupid is about love. Cupid fell in love with Psyche, a mortal. They got married with the condition that Psyche is not allowed to see Cupid. Until one day, she defied this condition but Cupid ran away from her. Consequently, she wanted to be reunited with Cupid. So, Psyche paid a visit to Venus, Cupid’s mother. She did several trials and tests. And she passed. As a reward, Venus reunited Psyche and Cupid. Sooner or later, Cupid and Psyche gave birth to a child named pleasure.

In this day and age, many movies, shows, books, magazines, and the like are filled with suggestions about sex. We see many pairs engaged in pre-marital sex. Today’s sex-saturated civilization and society loads our minds with various reasons to rush and have sex outside of marriage. Some would try to have sex before marriage to see if they are compatible sexually, etc. As Christians, we should not follow this earthly wisdom. I would say that premarital sex is a sin. According to statistics garnered from several studies, couples that cohabitate prior to marriage are more likely to get a divorce than those couples that do not. Sex is a pleasurable and yet powerful thing and must be done as God, the creator of both men and women and sexuality, intended, and that is inside of marriage. We must understand what is God’s purpose for sex. God wants men and women to enjoy sexual activity within the limits of marriage. Sex before marriage can lead to sexually transmitted diseases, abortions, unwed mothers and unwanted pregnancies, and children growing up without a parent in their lives. There is a great risk of contracting STDs and AIDS or getting pregnant, anguish, regret and emptiness. Self-restraint is the only guiding principle when it comes to sex before marriage. Through self-discipline and abstinence, we can lives and give honor to God.
Okay, we have concluded that sex before marriage is harmful, but then what? Where do Christian woman find out about sex in a healthy context, besides from the media or a fallen society? After all, sex can be intimidating all on it’s own, apart from modern ideas about sex and even when one abstains and waits until marriage. Today, I would like to talk about Grandma’s Sex Handbook by Anne Wright. The book gives solid sexual advice for Christian women. Grandma’s Sex Handbook motivates and inspires Christian women to understand sexuality as God’s creation. It gives explicit advice to young women (and it wouldn’t hurt if men read it too) who may be engaged or already married. What really surprised me in this book is Sexual Fantasy Cookbook. These are the ways to improve sexual relationship within marriage context. The book also emphasizes that it’s ok for a wife to enjoy and want sex, and a wife should keep her husband sexually satisfied. Ultimately, it would be good if this wisdom and advice was passed down from grandmother to mother to daughter, etc., but in this day and age the common sense provided in this book is no longer very common. The book has an overview of what our attitudes and views, as Christian woman should be regarding married sex, as well as explicit advice regarding specific sexual issues, such as sexual positions, oral sex, porn, masturbation, fantasies, lusts, etc. I can say that I am really amazed by this book. This book is highly recommended.
