Lead in Balsamic and Red Vinegar

I just went to the store today. As I was browsing, I saw a warning where the balsamic vinegar is located. The warning sign says, “This product contains lead, a chemical known to the State of California tPhotobucketo cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.” It was in fine print. I was shocked upon reading the warning sign. The warning is under Proposition 65 here in California. All balsamic and red wine vinegars appear to have trace of amount of lead. It is believed that “Most balsamic and red wine vinegars have lead levels equal to or less than 34 parts per million. An average person would need to consume 1 to 2 cups of balsamic or red wine vinegar per day to reach the Proposition 65 lead level minimum threshold, which includes a 1000-fold safety margin.” Aged vinegars, favored by gourmets and cost about $100 a bottle, contain more lead than the quicker brewed, less expensive kinds. Lead can harm people’s neurological systems, mainly children’s developing brains. Lead also is a carcinogen, and in adults, it is linked to cardiovascular, kidney and immune system effects. Actually, lead is not only found in vinegar as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that North Americans consume 50 micrograms of lead each day through food, beverages and dust. A microgram is a millionth of a gram. Most children, the biggest risk of lead exposure comes from old, deteriorating house paint and tap water, not only from vinegar. But it is just that vinegars are acidic and make the metal fully soluble so it’s more easily absorbed into the bloodstream. There are some balsamic and red vinegar that do not violate California’s proposition 65 limits for lead. Click here for details.

Do you like Facebook? I love Facebook. I checked my Facebook every day. Sounds like, it’s part of my daily activities. Honestly, it could be time consuming sometimes. I could have been doing something more valuable than facebooking. It’s fun! But I need to control myself on visiting my facebook every day. Yeah right?! Can I really do that? We’ll see. Facebook is such a very great concept – you can check out what your friends are up to and you can shout out your thoughts, experience, emotions, etc. at the same time. Is it really worth my time messing with Facebook every day? I am now starting to question myself since I saw the video of South Park talking about Facebook, it’s very funny but it’s true. Like I said, Facebook is fun. It’s fun.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Happy Valentines to everyone! Why Valentines Day is symbolized or associated with Cupids? It is because the story of Cupid is one of love. Cupid was said to have fallen in love with Psyche, a mortal. He married her, but she was forbidden to look at him. One day she disobeyed these orders but Cupid ran away from her. In order to be reunited with Cupid, Psyche paid a visit to Venus, Cupid’s mother. After making her undergo several tests, Venus reunited Psyche and Cupid. Eventually, according to the story, Cupid and Psyche gave birth to a child named pleasure (what a name!). Other legends about Cupid’s arrows. It is said that whoever is struck or hit by Cupid’s arrow immediately falls in love with the next person they see. Supposedly, this is how Venus came to fall in love with the god Adonis. Cupid’s arrows are either golden or leaden. A golden arrow represents true love, while a leaden arrow represents lust. Sometimes, Cupid is even said to carry a torch. This torch is supposedly used to light passion between a man and a woman.

I took a nap for nearly two hours today. I have been working since Thursday last week. Guess what? Tomorrow is my day off. I am so glad about it. I have one more day until my day off. I can hardly wait. And I am excited about it. I don’t have any plans of going anywhere but I want to take a rest. I feel that my body is telling to chill and cool down. I can say that I am exhausted. It is not fun to work seven days in a row. Not fun at all! But I am looking forward to seeing my paycheck. Wohoo! Well, I work hard and I get paid more. The pay is not that big but it pays off our bills. What else could I ask for more? I am grateful to God for having a job despite our economy.
