Water

Water is a chemical substance or compound of hydrogen and oxygen. Its chemical formula is H2O. Water is a liquid at ambient conditions but you can also find it in solid state and gaseous state.
About 70% of the planet earth is covered and composed of water. Ninety-eight percent (98%) of water is in the oceans. And about two percent (2%) of the planet earth’s water is fresh. Our body contains about sixty percent to seventy percent (60% – 70%) water. In actual fact, our brains are made up of over 80%water. That’s why we need to drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day. For you information, we need more water than food.
Water helps us break down and digest food and expel toxins from our body through urine. Water is very important. When you don’t drink enough, you would get dehydrated. Aside from that, you can have some digestive problems like constipation and excretory problems like kidney stone formation.
It is very important to drink water throughout the day even if you don’t feel thirsty at all. And don’t you know that when you are thirsty, you are already heading to dehydration. You have to maintain good amount of fluids or water during hot weather. There are many dehydration cases during hot season, especially among children.
What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
What is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome? Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is also known as CTS. Full-time Bloggers should know about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a condition in which the median nerve is compressed at the wrist, leading to pain and muscle weakness in the forearm and hand. This condition is very common to typist, secretaries, stenographers, cashiers, tellers and of course, bloggers. The median nerve controls sensations to the palm side of the thumb and finger. The carpal tunnel is a narrow, rigid tube of ligament and bones at the base of the hand that holds the median nerve and tendons. What are the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
- Frequent burning, tingling, and itching numbness of the palm of the hand the fingers especially, the thumb, index, and middle fingers.
- Symptoms would usually first appear in one or both hands during the night, since many people flexed their wrists when they are sleeping. A person with this syndrome would wake up with the feeling need to shake out the hand and wrist.
- Difficulty in gripping and making a fist, dropping objects, and weakness. They are the symptoms of progression.
Carpal Tunnel Sydrome is due to repetitive motion.
How can you prevent it?
You can prevent carpal tunnel syndrome is to take breaks from repetitive movement or motion such as computer keyboard usage especially for bloggers, for cashiers– hit the keys slowly… Give your hands and wrists a break for 15 to 20 minutes. Avoid bending your wrist all the way up or down.
But CTS is different from Writer’s Cramp, a condition in which lack of fine motor skill coordination and ache and pressure in the fingers, wrist, or forearm is brought on by repetitive activity. Sometimes, I get a weird thought that I have CTS because my hands get really tired from doing many things on the computer and if I write so much. I remember when I was in still college– my right hand got really tired from writing a lot. I hope this is just a Writer’s Cramp. Anyhow, we should always prevent ourselves from developing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Remember “An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.”
Proper sitting posture at computer
Sitting in front of the computer can cause various joint and muscle problems. If you use a computer at length of several hours daily, it is recommended that you consider proper posture to reduce your risk of developing injuries of the hand/arm, shoulder, neck, and back. These symptoms can include numbness in the fingers, sore wrists, lower back pain, or eyestrain. You may also experience aches and pains in the neck, shoulders, arms, back, thighs, and lower legs (postural fatigue). I can say that I have developed these problems over the years of using computer a lot. My posture is not really good as I tend to slouch when I sit. Since I have been experiencing some aches in my neck and upper back, I decided on researching some ways to prevent or somehow minimize problems caused by sitting a lot in front of the computer.
- Push your hips as far back as they can go in the chair. Sit where your feet are flat on the floor and your knees equal to, or slightly lower than, your hips. And adjust the back of the chair to a 100°-110° reclined angle and make your upper and lower back supported. What I do I used a cushion to support my back.
- Set your keyboard in front of your body, the keys are centered with your body. Adjust the keyboard height so that your shoulders are relaxed, your elbows are in a slightly open position, and your wrists and hands are straight. Use wrist rests to help maintain neutral postures and pad hard surfaces. However, most keyboards nowadays come with wrist rest pads.
- Adjust the monitor making your neck is in a neutral and relaxed position. Center the monitor directly in front of you, above your keyboard. Position the top of the monitor approximately 2-3” above your seated eye level.
- Take small breaks during your workday. This is to release some muscle tensions.

Sunscreen
It is getting warmer here in Southern California, therefore, it’s very important to wear sunscreen whenever I go out. Sunscreen comes in lotion, spray or gel. Sunscreen protects our skin from the sun’s ultraviolet rays. Our skin is the largest organ in our body so we have to protect it from sun’s ultraviolet radiation (UV). Our skin serves as a protective covering. Sunscreen reduces the risk of skin cancer. Nowadays, you can find many sunscreen products at stores with different SPF. What is SPF? SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor. Actually, the number you see associated with SPF denotes the span of time you can stay out in the sun without burning, multiply by the corresponding number. For example, you would normally start to burn in 10 minutes, so if you use sunscreen with SPF of 15, then you would be able to stay out in the sun for 150 minutes. The SPF 15 protects your skin up to 95% UV rays. So, the higher SPF you use, the better.
