Risks on the web
Many consumers are now aware of the risks they take being online and engaging online shopping. But that’s not enough. Actually, 75% of respondents thought a firewall offered them enough protection to safeguard their identities online while another 62 percent believed antivirus software was enough protection against malware. Firewalls and antivirus software are important for protecting a computer, the tools don’t offer enough protection to safeguard a consumer’s privacy and identity while online. Online identity theft is much more common than we think and consumers are inundated with conflicting information about what they need to do to protect themselves as they surf the Web. Consumers need to realize that the steps they take to protect their computer system are not the same measures they need to safeguard their privacy and identity when they’re online. Firewalls and antivirus software simply aren’t enough.
To protect your identities online:
- You should have a plan that includes privacy and identity protection, computer system protection, browser protection, and a fraud alert service.
- Hide your IP address. Install software that hides your IP address, and therefore your identity and online activities, from criminals, search engines, and advertisers.
- Use Wi-Fi protection. Virus protection and protection against malicious software don’t protect you from cybercriminals who might be lurking on unsecure connections. When you access the Internet through a Wi-Fi hotspot — whether through a computer or mobile device — use an online anonymity product that encrypts your identity .
- Think twice before you type. Beware of what you post on social networking sites because cybercriminals are lurking there to try and steal your personal information.
Annoying pop up ads
I always want to keep my computer safe online considering all the virus, malware, trojans are everywhere these days. My computer has virus protection and firewall. However, I always find pop up ads on the web very bothersome. Sometimes, I don’t feel like visiting one of my favorite web sites because of pop up ads. Just like a while I visited the site, a few ads just popped up out of nowhere. It is really annoying because I have to close them. It is a waste of time. Do you feel the same way? However, I am planning on setting up a pop up ad blocker for my Internet browsers. Actually, I have a few Internet browsers set up in my computer. I have Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Most of the time, I use Chrome and Safari. They are very good browsers and they come with ad blockers. But sometimes, they don’t work.
Most pop-up ads contain virus or any harmful software. I remember when my pc got infected with Trojans due to pop-up ads. Internet browser I used at that time was not able to block it. It was so upsetting. I had to reformat computer. Now, I am planning on an ad remover. I would like to have a chrome ad blocker for my Chrome browser. And also I want to install a Safari ad blocker. I cannot wait to have ad removers for my browsers so I can safely browse the Internet.
Pop up ads
I don’t know why I still encounter pop up ads in my browser. I have a Firefox browser. I thought Firefox blocks pop up ads but I guess it doesn’t. In my next post, I am going to talk about pop up blocker. It is really good to have a blocker because it protects our computer from malware, virus, trojans, spyware, and the like. Most of these (not all) pop up ads contain some pesky malware. They are very annoying to me. It is hard to get rid of them sometimes. And when you click on them, they usually lead you to other pop-up ads opening. Arrggh!
Beware of Phishers
In dealing with emails, you should Watch out for spam or should we call it as Phishy emails. Phishing is emails playing to be an official retailer, bank, organization, or government agency. The sender usually asks to “verify” your personal information for some fabricated reasons. It normally states that your account is about to be closed, an order for something has been placed in your name, or your information has been lost because of a computer problem. Those are common statements they usually give. I received a lot of emails like that. But I don’t panic at all. I just simply report them as spam. I really like using gmail because it has automatic detection of spam emails. Another method that phishers use is to say they’re from the fraud departments of distinguished companies and ask to verify your information because they suspect you may be a victim of identity theft! Don’t get suckered. Phishers would also say that they are from a state lottery commission and requested people’s banking information to deposit their prize in their accounts. Phishers are everywhere not only on the net. I also received a text from a phisher when I was still in the P.I. saying that I won from lottery. At first I got excited but then I realized that would be impossible. So, be cautious with phishers.
Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard
This is a two-ounce Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard. You can type away accompanied by replicated key click sounds. So, you don’t have to cart a keyboard around with you when you could ( as an alternative) turn on this great virtual keyboard. The Virtual Laser Keyboard offers a full-size QWERTY keyboard. It is more convenient to use than the folding-type keyboards in terms of functionality. This keyboard is a laser projection that will show a virtual keyboard on any flat surface. So, basically it is a virtual keyboard operated by bluetooth. I read some reviews on this product, it has some shortcomings but you can try it yourself. It might work with you.
