Oral allergy
Lately, I noticed that I have irritation or itchiness around my lips. I really don’t know what caused it until I read an article at cnn.com. I put some medicated lip balm and antibiotic ointment but they don’t seem to work. It only reacts to hydrocortisone, so I partially thought it might be an allergy. I think I have seasonal allergies since it is already springtime. Do you also experience itchiness around your lips or mouth? In the article, it says that you may have oral allergy syndrome. The symptoms take place because the proteins in some fruits and vegetables are similar to proteins in some pollen. These proteins are similar to perplex the immune system, thus, caused allergic reactions. But it doesn’t mean that everyone with pollen allergies has oral allergy syndrome. You may sneeze all spring and not have food sensitivities. Allergist said that people may have strange reactions to certain foods like raw apples but not cooked apples. The proteins found in raw apples that are very similar to the proteins in birch pollen. I should avoid apples this season and some other fruits.
